The Affen Tzu is an intentional cross, not a kennel-club breed with a single written standard. Two dogs from the same pairing can differ in size, coat, and temperament, because each puppy inherits a different mix of traits from the contributing breeds.

The Affen Tzu is a toy mix of Affenpinscher and Shih Tzu. The face may keep the Affenpinscher's short muzzle and brows, or soften toward the Shih Tzu's rounder, shorter head. The coat is usually longer and silkier than a pure Affenpinscher, with a plumed tail.
This is a house companion more than a yard dog. The Shih Tzu side can make the eyes prominent, so they need to be kept clean. Daily combing prevents tangles if the coat grows out. Training is straightforward if sessions stay short and kind; both breeds can dig in their heels when bored.
