The Small Swiss Hound is a short-legged version of the Swiss hounds, with a long body, dropped ears, and a short or slightly rough coat. Color depends on the variety: tricolor, black and tan, or blue-speckled.

A smaller Swiss scent hound with a short coat and a hunt voice; mountain or forest miles, not city stillness.

The Small Swiss Hound, or Schweizer Niederlaufhund, is a short-legged Swiss scenthound used on hare. It comes in the same color varieties as the larger Swiss hounds. The UKC classes it as a Scenthound.

Temperament

These hounds are typically friendly with their hunter and determined on a track. They have a musical voice and will follow a scent out of an unfenced yard. They need more walking than a short yard break.

Train the recall early and use a long line.

Care and grooming

Wipe the short coat and clean the ears. Keep this long-backed dog lean.

Shedding

Low to moderate.

Health

As with other short-legged hounds, ear infections and disc problems can occur. Limit jumping off furniture.
