The White Shepherd is a large, white German Shepherd-type dog with erect ears, a bushy tail, and a dense double coat. The outline should be that of a working shepherd, not an exaggerated show slope.

A white shepherd-type for a house with training and a job; a double coat that sheds, a watchful bark, and too much mind for an idle apartment.

The White Shepherd is the white German Shepherd type kept as a separate breed in some registries. White dogs were present in early German Shepherd lines and were later excluded from many show standards.

Temperament

Brush weekly, more often when the undercoat blows. White coats show dirt; they do not need constant bathing.

As with other shepherd types, hip and elbow dysplasia and degenerative myelopathy can occur. Ask breeders about health testing.
